Can I understand in my own experiencing the two statements below from PWOS?

PWOS: “Small things we do not really want for ourselves are the only things we can really call a ‘whim’.”
“To compel the machine to do one small thing not desired by our organism or personality and also not automatic in the conditioning of the organism gives us a taste of Real Will on a small scale.”

For example what does it mean “to compel” the machine to do one small thing. What sort of force is involved with this? Does “to compel” the machine require that we have at least one eye open to the fact that there can be a separaton (non-entanglement) between the part of our nature that is still (non-phenomenal self or simple presence) and able to see and the part that is moving and cannot see for itself (phenomenal self /HBM)?
Can we notice the taste of Real Will on a small scale as we experiment with undertaking a small whim?
