This weeks exercise was pretty neat for me, with several “aha” experiences. I decided to observe my habit of crossing my arms. At first, I found that in my process of ‘observing’ I was also judging: I had determined that the habit was ‘bad’ and needed to be changed. So, I let go of that perception, and just that one change felt so good and was a big step for me. After a while I started accepting the behavior, but then my historical personality felt left out, so wanted to jump back in and offer more judgement and felt the need to explain the behavior: I had decided that I did it because it “felt so good”. (Ha!) Next came the fun concept of changing the behavior ever so slightly– so I started crossing my right arm over my left, instead of the other way around. First I could hardly even do it– it took several attempts before my body could even carry it out. This has brought about a whole new set of sensations to notice–and it’s kind of like my own insider joke every time I do it.
