PWOS: “How fortunate you are to have a sleeping machine, full of negative force and thousands of little unconscious mechanical habits.” PWOS chapter 3: “In fact, everything we say and do, if it originates with the machine is negative emotion in one disguise or another.”
Today my most effective effort came from sensing the sleep of the machine. I felt more than restless, something like “itching like a man on a fuzzy tree”. This evening while watching poker on TV, I rested in this “restless itching”. Sitting there I could see that restless movements of the hands, or feet always resulted in a tightening that numbed the body so this “all over prickly heat” would not be felt. The little movements would start with the hands or feet then develop into a constriction of the body and breath. In addition there was a strong drive to enter into a eating frenzy because that would cover over this strange condition that the machine wanted to avoid at all cost.
Thank you Mike for your rubber-hits-the-road description of a process so many of us check out on instead of sticking around to feel and observe!
